A special ceremony was held on 28 April 2014 to officially award the ISO 9001:2008 certificate to Alia Construction Pvt Ltd, the first Maldivian construction company to achieve this.
The Hon. Minister of Housing and Infrastructure was the chief guest of the ceremony. Other VIPs that attended included the Hon. Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Minster at Presidents Office, the Regional Manager and Global Technical Manager of the SGS ISO Certifying body, SGS Country Manager from Sri Lanka, and senior officials and representatives of the various sectors of the construction industry.
The ceremony was held at Dharubaaruge Convention Center, during the MACI Build & Home Expo 2014. The speakers at the event were the Executive Director of Alia Investments, Mr. Alau Ali, the SGS Regional Manager, Ms. Suzan Law and Hon. Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
During the event Ms. Suzan Law formally handed the ISO Certificate to the Managing Director of Alia Construction, Mr. Atho Ali.
Mr. Alau Ali in his speech mentioned the significance of achieving this certification as the first Maldivian construction company especially while celebrating the 50th anniversary as a pioneer this year.
The chief guest and ISO representative both congratulated ACPL for this momentous achievement and emphasized the importance of continuing to maintaining the high standards, especially in the area of safety within the work site.
